Courts and Citizenship in the Digital Economy

In a global society undergoing rapid transformation driven by disruptive technologies, which have intensified structural asymmetries in access to the economic system, how can socio-legal analysis contribute to understanding these impacts?

It is within this context that this book, the result of an interdisciplinary research project involving scholars and legal researchers from Brazil and Italy, seeks to contribute to the contemporary academic debate.

The book is structured in two parts.

The first offers theoretical contributions aimed at rethinking the role of law in a society increasingly mediated by digital platforms and big technology corporations.

The second part examines empirical themes and concrete case studies addressing the impacts of digital transformation on the exercise of citizenship and political rights, the protection of personal data, and access to social rights.

This collective work contributes to the scholarly debate on law and digital platforms, while also exemplifying the necessity of interdisciplinary and international research for analyzing the legal dimensions of an increasingly digitalized society.

Marco Antonio Loschiavo Leme de Barros, Professor of Economic Law and Sociology of Law in the Postgraduate Program in Political and Economic Law at Mackenzie Presbyterian University, and at the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, Brazil.

Dafni Lima, Assistant Professor at Durham Law School. Her research interests lie in comparative family law and human rights. Dafni holds an LLB, LLM and PhD from Aristotle University and an LLM from the University of Cambridge.
